The book "Bhagwad Gita" will also answer your question about reincarnation and karma. There is a chapter on Karma Yoga in Bhagwad Gita.

Hinduism is not a organized religion. You can start with the Bhagwad Gita and that will answer a lot of your questions.

Can you deny the fact? that one of your prophets encouraged SODOMY? Look at your own religion b4 looking at others, fucking dogs!!!!

Why don't say the same thing without criticizing Hinduism? Are you that insecure about your faith that the only way you can propagate it is by condemning someone else's faith. You are free to believe what you wish, why not let others enjoy the same freedom.

why don't get more curious and read about Islam! Maybe just maybe this religion might answer your questions, instead of looking into gods with trunks and tails, statues created by human hands, not to mention how helpless they can be..and by the way Allah is another name of God in english and Dieu in French..good luck

God is the Ultimate Reality which underlies all existence. God is both nameless and formless but nevertheless Hinduism allows for a follower to worship God in any name or form(pluralism). Religion is seen as a pathway to God-realization which is the ultimate goal of life. One must lead a good life, worship God with faith, help others, practice yoga and be kind to all. One must avoid hurting others, lust, anger, greed & hatred. Above all, one must constantly meditate on God & seek to know Him.
By: venchanter. on 06 Sep 08, 23:03:39
Hindus believe in One Reality(God) revealed in the Holy Vedas. The goal of life is to attain spiritual realization of God. Hindus accept many pathways to this spiritual realization like Bhakti, Jnana etc. Each hindu religion prescribes an unique path and the follower can either follow one or chart an entirely new course for themselves ( that is why Hinduism is the most open religion/way of life in the world ). In addition, Hindus believe in an eternal soul, accountable to God for one's deeds

If you want to read a basic begginer's guide, I would suggest reading Ed Viswanathans' books on Hinduism. These are intended for Hindu teens who were raised in the West. As such these books are very basic and teach all of the basic ideas of Hinduism. From there, I would move on to reading Klaus Klostermaier's Introduction to Hinduism - this is the standard textbook used in Religion 101 classes in American colleges. From there, it depends on what you want to lear more on and then specialize.

Karma in Hinduism = Action and its consequences. Karma comes from Sanskrit root 'kar' which means 'to do'. Hindus believe that one is accountable for one's actions both good and bad and that this Karma "attaches" to one's soul. Buddhists don't believe in a permanent soul ( anatma doctrine ) and therefore in Buddhism one's Karma is not "attached" to one's soul but is part of one's debt to "society". Buddhism is a lot more complicated than Hindu philosophy which accepts both God and a soul.

The root scriptures of Hinduism are the Vedas - four in number. The Vedas are the oldest scriptures of humanity. They contain rituals, chants, prayers, spiritual knowledge, philosophy and even medicine. Hindus revere the Vedas as the fount of all knowledge and spirituality. In addition to the Vedas, there are another set of scriptures called Agamas. Here is where it gets complicated. The Agamas are sectarian i.e. not all Agamas are accepted by all Hindus. Vedas are accepted by all hindus.

First off, you are asking questions - that is the first step. True religion in Hinduism starts with vichaar or enquiry. It would be hard to explain Hinduism in You Tube but in essence Hinduism is a name for the ancient and traditional religions practiced in India for more than 5000 years! The word 'hindu' itself is of Arabic origin ( the Arabs invaded India in 6th century AD and called the locals as 'hindus' ) and acutally refers to all Indians - not any specific religious group.

24/8/08 Today is the biggest Hindu festival celebrated as the birth of Supreme Lord Shri Krishna. If the desire to know the supreme Lord has arisen within you, it is a sign of Lord Krishna's divine blessing reaching you. He has already embraced you. Don't get confused about the several deities, they all are one. For you I would suggest 2 things: 1. a small MANTRA which can be recited first verbally and then mentally 24-7.
By: byb31. on 24 Aug 08, 13:38:03
2nd. As all Hindus do, you also should read the life story's of Lord Shri Rama and Lord Shri Krishna. This will answer your qs abt karma and reincarnation. May I suggest you read the epic Ramayana first. Some series have been made for public viewing with english subtitles, perhaps they would help. We Hindus love to watch them again and again as they all have universal secrets and life's lessons. Please watch my youtube vdo Bewitched by Krishna. You may get a glimpse of Lord Krishna.
By: byb31. on 24 Aug 08, 13:37:04
I would love to answer any further questions. Since today is Krishna Janmashtmi, The birth of Lord Shri Krishna on the 8th day of the dark moon. May lord Krishna shower his blessings and love on you. Since you have reached out to Krishna, trust me he has already held your hand. Hare Krishna

By: asiaticgenius2. on 20 Aug 08, 08:45:59
hinduism believes in only one god and hence is monotheistic. There are only different representations of one God. Besides Hinduism Sikhism Buddhism and Jainism are all related religions to begin with.
