Unfair or not, this beautiful song is forever tied to the movie. The movie is so shockingly imposing that you could never separate the song from the scene of Isabella Rossellini singing it in a smoke-filled bar with blue stage lighting. But think about it this way. The movie is about two worlds of the strongest contrasts ever exist -- the bright and innocent one rescuing the evil and wicked one. At the end, this song still belongs to the sweet and innocent.

I had never even heard of,"California Blue," until I saw it here on You Tube. Now I have it as one of my favorites. There is only one Roy Orbison. He has recorded a song for everyone who loves music. I sing his music. My 72 year old voice can't get the high notes anymore but his songs are so filled with emotion that it doesn't matter. I do them anyhow. What a loss to all of us who love excellence!
