It's impossible to compare professional bassists such as Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Les Claypool, James Jameson, and the 100s of other skilled musicians because they play different music. Technically they are all about the same, they just play different things. Cliff Burton however, is fucking bad. I don't care what all the fat mulleted metallica fans say, he is nothing special. He just mashes his fingers between 12-14 and uses a distortion pedal so it sounds mildly cool.

To be honest he's probably one of the most accurate and skilled bassist's out there. No person can just say, oh he's sloppy because he's not 100% Accurate, because it's not technically possible, no one is perfect and obviously he can't hit every last note without some error.

Just put some masking tape on your thumb. It works good with slapping and when I flamenco strum. I'm not good at flamenco strumming with my finger nails so I just use my thumb. It works just as good.

I'm actually wondering if he can play an upright bass. but even if he can't play an actual instrument, isn't it at least as cool to invent your own? I mean, everyone can master a guitar or a bass if you have a good teacher and are committed. but to create your own instrument, you must have technical knowledge, creativity and the ability to use the instrument in a way that people will like. distortion on a bass is hard to handle and get a good sound out of it, unless you play metal or stuff like that, i love metal, but even then a bass with distortion sounds stupid, IMO he does a great job handling the distortion, hes no buckethead, or sheehan but he pulls it off and almost sounds like santana, kicks ass man,

You're a fucking idiot. The number of strings on a bass does not dictate whether you can be "funky" or not. A perfect example of this is with Les Claypool. Not many people are going to try to argue when someone says he's a funky bassist with his 6 string. Now search for some songs played by him on his whamola (one string fretless bass) and tell me it isn't funky. You obviously don't play an instrument.

no the rainbow bass is a 6 string fretless, the four string has no official name, u can tell aside from the fact the rainbow has 6 strings, because the four string has a kahler tremolo bridge. The 4 stringbass does look alot like the rainbow bass, but as said above does not have a name. dont bother argueing, look on carl thompson's website for gods sake.
