This was a very historic time for Apple because they were almost bankrupt at the time, so Steve announces a temporary partnership with Microsoft to a very hostile crowd. Bill Gates also makes an appearance.

The poor people Ipod? I actually preffered this model when it first came out instead of the bulkier ipod. It was the perfect size to bring to the gym and such. Besides the fact it had no video, and was slightly buggy (Firewire error message, and not shutting off) it was one of the best mp3 players on the market, no matter what your economic status was. I remember computer stores selling plastic mouse enclosures that would fit over that round mouse to make it a little more comfortable to use. It wasn't long before Apple replaced that round mouse.

you're wrong microsoft's blue screen problem cannot associated with apple. yes they did copy from apple but that was based on the phototype source code. after windows 1.0 they had completely saperated their devolopment with apple's partnership and making stuff on their own so it is not saying that apple should be responsible for microsoft's error. it's just microsoft wasnt able to completed that copy of mac os from the beginging. like steve said microsoft wasnt good enought to handle or copy it.

This has nothing to do with iPod. Apple's lack of computer marketshare was due to Apple's refusal to license its OS. In the beginning IBM didn't have an OS so it licensed DOS from Microsoft - not because it was better. Bottom line is the best products and marketshare are seldom associated. Don't get me wrong. Ubuntu is very stable (though it has some issues with hardware recognition and drivers). But when it comes to being a novice, Ubuntu is one bad setting change from a crash. You can go to the Ubuntu boards and see threads from people who have to reinstall Ubuntu because they changed something that caused the install to not work properly. I should have said that Ubuntu isn't user friendly when it comes to its learning curve. But when you know what to do, it is a great asset.

Strange. I have Ubuntu on my macbook pro. I use it constantly and it never crashes. The Mac partition on the other hand has crashed three times in the past year. Losing me data and sleep trying to get it working again. As for the "idiot proof" aspect. The Gnome/KDE wars are precisely about how far to idiot proof their desktops. But then again, I'm not an idiot, so that isn't an issue for me.

Ubuntu crashes all of the time. But that may be specific to that distro. You can't just toss around the phrase Linux without referring to the distro you are using. Even worse is the fact that unlike a Mac or Windows which are relatively "idiot proof," Linux is easily corrupted by the user, because of the DOS like install system with the command line. Linux is efficient, practical and simple enough to use, but it is problematic for its own reasons.

nah. It wouldn't have been a "new feature" if it would have been in OS 9. But OS 9 (and OS 8, OS 7.5 might have had it too) had a control strip on the bottom. You changed stuff like volume, screen resolution, colour depth, stuff like that from it. Compare it to the right side of the menu bar.

LOL at '3rd rate arthritic legged rocking horse'. i used Windows from 98, and truth be told, my current desktop runs on Vista, but i have a macbook and the desktop is just neglected now. and in my humble opinion, one of the reasons why people (who've never used Mac) think it's crap is because they're to some extent blinded by how much cheaper PCs are as compared to Macs. it's the 'if it's so expensive why bother?' mentality i guess. :/

I have 1.6 Ghz mode, bought a used one. This machine look great and saves some deskspace by integrating stuff together. The only problem is that the machine spins up its fans after I do anything processor intensive with it. CPU temperature quickly reaches to 60 c and hard drive goes ~55 c, when the computer is not in heavy usage, this machine is very very silent.

At this time I bought a PC with a P4 running at 3 GHz. I got 512 MB DDR400 DC and an ATi 9800XT superior to the competing nVidia FX5900. A DVD-Burner was also integrated as well as g-Wi-Fi and a TV-Tuner for only 999?... and a 17"-TFT for about 280?. Why did anyone buy these hyper-expensive machines those days?
