Agreed - oddly enough, I did consider kicking him in the bollocks but I decided not to. I tend to reserve my hatred for 'The Kaiser Chiefs', 'We Are Scientists', 'The Wombats' and 'The Ting Tings', but 'Razorlight' are just a bunch of talentless tossers! They should just give up! Agreed. Infact, it's bloody annoying when crappy bands like 'MCR', 'The Ting Tings' and 'The Wombats' seem to be more recognisable to people than 'The Stone Roses' are. Infact, yeaterday, I asked my mate if he had a 'Stone Roses' CD, and he said he'd never heard of them! I was so appalled that, upon hearing this, I made a swift exit from his house.

MuchMusic is where I discovered this great band. It was Jenny Ondioline they wre playing. Since then I've seen a lot of Stereolab videos (including this) on MuchMusic (usually on The Wedge). Oh definitely many bands could have been, or very likely were influenced by them, but that doesn't mean I have to like them haha. I find all of their stuff cheesy sorry, most of the rock music that came out of that whole era. As for post-punk, Joy Division remains at the top of my desert island playlist, but how exactly do you see Kraftwerk fitting into the mix? Fathers of techno yes, but they don't share the title with mr.curtis for post-punk in any way.

Cheesy? Maybe their post 80s material but I don't see how you can say that to anything they did in the 60s or 70s. Pink Floyd ARE the godfathers of shoegaze. Listen to their soundtrack on La Valle, or Meddle, Animals, Pipers at the Gates of Dawn. Shoegaze borrows heavily from the 60s. Listen to Ride and you will see what I mean. Shoegaze is great but it came out when grunge hit America so it didn't register. Now post-punk, you must agree -- Kraftwerk and Joy Division forever.

Everybody and their grandmother stole from these guys. Bowie and Robert Smith have named Syd Barrett as personal influences.

Isn't this Led Zeppelin's "Moby Dick" without the drum solo? Not that that's a bad thing, Zeppelin themselves ripped off a bunch of tunes from other artists, there is nothing new under the sun. Oui, je me souviens de la basse de Ian Masters avec une grosse vache imprimée dessus( la même qu'ici apparemment )). Ils étaient peut-être un peu trop "intellectuels" à l'époque du Grunge. Ian Masters créa après Spoonfed Hybrid qui était excellent aussi.

Souvenirs indeed (high school ones mostly). I couldn't make it to the 4AD Anniversary at the Ancienne Belgique though, so I gave my ticket and the recorder to a friend of mine, so I could still listen to their show. Fortunatelly I caught up with them later when they opened up for the Pixies in Deinze. There should be more Pale Saints/Ian Master songs on YouTube!

I agree with Jesu and Isis having great atmosphere. everyone looking for atmosphere should also listen to Alcest- Le Secret. It is just plain amazing. Alcest's early work was black metal but they evolved to something that is beyond genres, something much more powerful I think. They have a new full legnth CD coming out this summer that will blow everyone who listens to it away!

I tend to disagree and find the word stupid inappropriate. I believe the depth of their philosophical position matches well with the simplicity of their lyrics. You would not hear a Zen master speak in words loaded with stylistic concerns. They would say, remind, puzzle and leave. I think anybody who reads a bit on the tensions between an objectivist Western worldview and an experiential Eastern philosophy would find these lyrics quite intelligent and down to earth.
