If we do not drill now, then when? Telling everyone to suck it up is not a good answer when it is common knowledge that we have of untapped reserves in this country. We can be independent of foreign oil, but we need to ignore th tree-huggers and tap our own supply. And in doing so, not only can we make ourselves more independent, it will also put a dent in the nations who support terrorism, like Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.

Adjusting is hard, but like everything else, people need to figure out how to adjust. If your paycheck is cut in half, do you continue spending money the way you did before the cut? Most people will cut back fairly quickly. This is no different. More drilling will most likely happen, but it won't produce more production for a few years. We have to cut back whether we like it or not.

This is the point that frustrates me. Do people actually believe that we can adjust our use overnight? I'm all in favor of using less and supplying our own energy. One of the problems with that is the length of time required for the switch. And to act like we can flip a switch and tomorrow have less is completely naive. We need something to tide us over until that happens. I'm not for drilling without changing our habits. I'm also not for changing our habits without drilling. They go together.

Obama's big solution seems to be a windfall profits tax. Didn't Carter already try this? Wasn't it a massive failure? The oil companies do not set prices. OPEC does. The govt. makes twice as much on each barrel through taxes and on the little that the oil companies do get as profit, they get taxed on that. The Dems promote the myth of the evil oil barons, while sweeping any mention of their greed under the rug. Why are we starving ourselves and relying on our worst enemies for succor?
By: whiteking910. on 16 Jun 08, 15:50:02
It is a travesty that Dems think that appeasing Greenpeace and the Sierra Club is more important than reducing the oil crisis. We are perhaps the only nation that has large untapped reserves of oil, yet refuses to tap it because of the tree huggers. There are ways to drill without destroying the environment. But those damn hippies are opposed to drilling, period. I'm sorry, but people come first. And taxing the oil companies is not a viable solution. We need to increase supply.

The atmospheric co2 levels are around 380ppm and the arctic ice cap is melting. You may believe that's simply cylical and I would disagree. I'm not going to try to convince you. Our civilization could not survive in the pre-ice age climate, especially if we only have short amount of time to adjust to it. Think Katrina was bad? I know you want to believe that nothing that humans do on earth could possibly effect something so huge as the climate, I think that we do have at least a small effect.
By: Mojack420. on 16 Jun 08, 03:21:45
are these the same scientist that said we were going into an ice age in the 70's . which ice cap is melting ??? ifs that due to man or is that cylical , you know ift was much warmer before the little ice age ,then it is today . I didnt know the vikings had hummers or maybe your talking about the ice caps on mars that are melting . you think it might have far more to do with the sun then man . and just what is the atmospheric co2??? 300ppm 350ppm 400ppm??
By: StefanSteinerWA. on 16 Jun 08, 01:54:03
Mojack, you may believe what every pseudoscience that you need to justify your abuse to the environment. It's funny, you are typing on a computer that scientist and engineers have developed using solid scientific practices. That same science is what is used for instance to determine that global warming is happening, that the ice cap is melting and that CO2 levels are much higher than thousands of years. Bush et al has done a great job getting people to believe that scientists can't be trusted.
By: Mojack420. on 16 Jun 08, 00:31:42
what global warming its been cooler these past 2 years and are looking at colder tempts for the next 10 years due to ocean currents shifting. in the 1970 we were going back into an ice age in the 90's it was global warming 20010 what will it be ????
By: Mojack420. on 16 Jun 08, 00:29:44
i would say far over 60% of trucks are used to haul stuff , yeah some people bought more car then they need but it dosnt excuse the far left eco nuts that have for the past 3 decades have halted our own production of our own fuels. we cant use the shale we cant drill in alaska we cant drill off our coast we cant build refinarys we cant build nuke reactors we cant we cant we cant even wind power is threatend because birds fly into some blades.
By: StefanSteinerWA. on 15 Jun 08, 06:24:59
Tell me how many trucks are really hauling tools and material? I grew up on a farm and we have trucks that haul stuff all of the time, but most people who own these nowadays use them to move groceries. How many really use Hummers for anything except for transportation. They weigh three tons and make well under 10mpg. The government actually gave tax breaks to people for buying SUVs over three tons. In the past, when energy is cheap, alternative sources of energy are not given much attention.
By: Mojack420. on 14 Jun 08, 20:12:53
To get higher mpg you have to make lighter cars, show me some light trucks that haul tools and material??? We are sitting on huge energy deposits we just can't touch them we can't build refineries and nuke it out. Give me an fn break drill here build refineries here liquefy coal, take oil from shale and then while we use these recourses we have a buffer of more time to implement new resources. I'm putting solar panels on my new house not because of global warming but to get off the grid.
By: StefanSteinerWA. on 14 Jun 08, 10:10:48
There's two ways here, not just one. Don't be fooled. You can either try to increase supply OR reduce demand if lower gas prices are desired. Let see how this goes, the Republicans have repeatedly refused to allow increased MPG standards here at home even though as we all know reduced demand leads to lower prices. To top it off, lest we have forgotten something even more important than fuel prices, this would reduce carbon emissions and help slow global warming.
By: btbblack. on 13 Jun 08, 16:33:17
Neither the Democrats or the republicans are addressing the cause of high gas prices. The value of the dollar is hurt every time the federal reserve counterfeits money by printing it. Because the dollar is not tied to anything of real value, the more of it they print, the less it's worth. The value of oil compared to gold is about the same it has been for many years. Are the 2 parties lying to us, or are they so naive that they cannot see what our failed monetary system is failing?

He had to keep repeating the position of Barack Hussein, because like me, he cannot believe the Democratic candidate is so deeply naive, and yet has this vast following. So, he's making certain it sinks in to the minds of the brainwashed!
