You naysayers suck. First off, Ian Astbury is one of the best singers in rock and The Cult is one of the best rock bands. Period. If you aren't familiar with their catalogue and the role they played in music all the way from punk rock up through hard rock, don't waste your time chopping them down. That said...Astbury was not only a great choice for filling Jim's shoes, he was the ONLY choice. Anyone who is familiar with Ian's heart and soul will understand this.

This is not the original Doors. After all, they would never be again after Jim Morrison's death. However, Ian Astbury is NOT trying to imitate Morrison. Anyone who's been listening to The Cult since the beginning knows this is just Ian Astbury being Ian Astbury. It's unfortunate that he does bare a strong resemblance to Morrison, because people will automatically jump all over that.

Ugh, I feel embarrassed for Astbury. He was amazing with The Cult, but here he just looks (and sounds like) a bad Morrison rip-off. Give it up, guys. You can't recreate that old spirit The Doors had when Jim is still alive, and I'm sure Manzarek has enough money to keep him happy for years to come, greedy old bastard.

Will...I've met Ian years ago when I lived in england (1983?)...love him ever since...he was and is crazy, arrogant and phenomenal guy! It has been more than 20 years and life shoved us in different directions but I pray for him and wish him all the best and I'm glad to see he's doing well. Just wish he could do a show here...on the rock in Pacific. ALoha from Hawaii...and tell Ian he has a lot of friends! He will never be alone (not like the rest of us)

The band never played Love Trooper live. This song can be found on Rare Cult Box and Best of Rare Cult cd. There's a demo version of Love Trooper on Rare Cult and Rare Cult The Demo Sessions box set. Thanks for posting! Very nice pictures! I've been to a concert in Amsterdam om March 8 2008,it was one of the best days of my life. I also saw them live in 1985 when i was 16. I listen to this beautiful song every day (best of rare cult). Since there are no other postings of this song, i think that they don't play it live very often. If someone knows where i can find it, let me know!

I dont think its fair to compare them. For one thing Morrison is only like 20 something in his video and Asbury is pushing 40 in his. Do a comparison when in thier prime. I also do not think Ian is trying to be Jim, just trying to honor the guy and singing when the remaining band members asked him too. They obviously felt he was the guy for the job. Kudos to the Doors.

That riff that Robbie and Ray throw back and forth in this vid with Ian is just great its every bit as great or better then anything they have ever played. They have had 40 years of practice people ENJOY......Robbie starts rippin this great riff at 5:55 then back and forth with Ray these guys are having a blast playing this music again you can see it in thier actions! Jim is dead so get over it. Ray and Robbie love playing this music most of which they wrote. Ian is a great singer no he's not Jim, Morrison lived his life on the edge so he's dead so deal with it. Im glad this great rock band still wants to play this music because its great. Live they are a ton of fun and keep ya dancing the whole gig with Rays great circus sounds. I got to see Ian Astbury front the Doors (before the lawyers got involved and took away their name). Ian Astbury did a fantastic job. Because of Morrison's drug use, and the primitive nature of sound equipment in rock's early days, the Doors' live sound was seriously flawed. It was refreshing to see and hear the Doors' music properly performed live. Thanks for this post.

Looks notwithstanding, Kilmer failed to capture Morrison's persona, but this may have been due to Stone's shortcomings. I don't know if Astbury can act, but he could not have done any worse than Kilmer. Oh and yeah, the real Pamela was way better looking than Meg Ryan too, even Patricia Kennealy said as much so it's not only my opinion but someone's who actually knew both people.

Astbury did not try to imitate Morrison or replace him. To try would be futile. I think Jim would've approved of Astbury as a singer. It is somewhat eerie the physical resemblance between Astbury and Morrison, perhaps Oliver Stone should have gotten Ian to portray Jim in "The Doors", Val Kilmer is ugly compared to Jim.

Jim focused? That`s a laugh. The dude was on psychedelics and a litre of JD every show! This was a tribute, not a replacement. Ian thinks much like Jim spiritually and politically. This is what made him attractive to the band. He did not need this gig because he is a hell of a performer in his own right. And yes, he does resemble Jim somewhat. It was a great excuse for the band to get back together and pad their retirements and a pretty damn good product. Just enjoy it. Jim IS DEAD!

alot of lyricists write from stories they hear at the local pub and on chat rooms and don't live, it could be one of those things where they are more interpreted by the audience and the lyricists life is so different from the song because lets face it here it definitely looks like it and is that their child by chance?

Nobody wants to replace Jim. Please listen to Ian, Ray and Robby better before you judge somebody. Ian knows that he´s not Jim Morrison, Ray and Robby only wanted to bring to life their music with Ian´s help. He was the best choice for them. Jim was great personality, Ian is great personality in his own way. People, don´t be so egoistic with your love for Jim. I like them both because I have found something unique in each of them, and I learned to listen to people, not only judge everybody.

Robby Krieger's into Spanish Caravan is excellent but Ian Astbury not now and not ever will ever hold a candle to Jim Morrison. He sounds completely off he should go back and sing for his band The Cult. I believe that Jim is irreplaceable and no one no matter how good they sing will come near to Jim's gifted talent and charisma.
