The irony of this video is delicious. Fleischer isn't what's wrong with Washington, it's people like McClellan. He stands for nothing but his own self-advancement at the expense of others. What courage it must have taken him to criticize a president whose approval rating is 30% and a war that no one agrees with. What a bold position. I'd rather be led by someone who stands for principles even if they are misguided than someone like McClellan who believes in nothing but unscrupulous careerism.

Yeah she does a little bit facially, I think Disney had to have seen this Fleischer short when he did Snow White just a few years later, The "Magic Mirror on the wall, Who's the fairest one of all?" And "Magic Mirror in my hand, Who's the fairest in the land?" Of course Disney probably stuck alot closer to the original fairy tale than the Fleischers did, But Disney IMHO borrowed a fair little bit from the original Fleischer short.

The Fleischers were geniuses, they were light years ahead of the bland diznee cartoons. Max and Dave F were urban-NYC animators who were hipper than hip, they always included jazz in their toons. I couldn't find it on U Toob but look for a feature titled Car-Tunes, amazing Color Classic, also Xmas Comes But Once a year with Grampy, Betty Boop as Cinderella and all 4 Popeye color classics

Yeah, It's funny I had a discussion with someone comparing The Fleischer Brothers to most modern animation like anime and such, I respect some anime but IMHO most of it just can't compare to what The Fleischer's Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, and others were able to do in their prime during the 1930s. The Fleischer's also did some nice work in the 1940s, But for me their golden age from the 30s was something special that we'll never see again.

Basically, what it was was tracing the cels over a filmed image. It was indeed creative, but it wasn't done freehand. Although I would have preferred a happy reunion of the cat couple art the end (after all, he did everything he could to get her on the ship), this is one of my all-time favorite cartoons -- a brilliant blend of a great song, Fleischer 3-D sets (one of several inventions his studio pioneered that Disney later claimed credit for), and a story/characters that are, at once, not just charming and amusing but also very moving.

I've watched this cartoon a hundred times and still love it. Great song, great technical bits. It's funny to hear other "moon songs" interpolated into the background music...e.g. "When the Moon Comes over the Mountain" and "By the Light of the Silvery Moon." And that was definitely Mae Questal doing most of the female characters.

A bit heavy, but not needlessly so. Poor cats, missing out on the "good" bits, the groom's lonely meows are so miserable, even as his bride yowls, "You left me on purpose!" Still, the catfight at the end puts me in mind of the old saying, Cats may ever fight, but there's still plenty of kittens. Cartoon cats seldom have an easy time of it, don't they?

By this point it looks like the Fleischers had quit doing their 3-d backgrounds, which must've been pretty expensive re. time and labor (even their last extra-length color spectacular 'Aladdin' is missing it I think). Doesn't matter here; this cartoon is so full of win, as the kids say, it's easily among the best in their great output.

Loved the part where Popeye & Poopdeck Pappy were fighting the Goons (to the WWI tune "Over There") then.....The film strip busted in two sendingthe Goons to thier doom but...both Popeyr & pPappt held on with the crowd whistling the projectionist "repaired the filmstrip with a safety pin!! A problem that plagued the Fleischer Studios for years was the fact that Disney had EXCLUSIVE rights to Technicolor for cartoons. That meant all other studios-- including the Fleischers -- had to use inferior two-strip non-Technicolor color until that agreement expired. Fortunately it did before the Fleischer Studio was hijacked by Paramount, but only just before. If you see either of the two-strip color Betty Boop cartoons -- which are in red/green hues -- you'll see what i mean.

Makes me miss Maui. I was only there for two weeks but it felt like a lifetime unto itself, lived in a different world. I haven't liked big cities for a long time but since then, a 4-story building seems like a cruel intrusion on the natural world to me. Kudos to both little birds for getting back to the land and spirit of aloha! :)

It was my understanding that Fitzgerald knew that Libby had not outed Wilson, but that Armitage went to prosecutors very early in the investigation and told them he was responsible. I don't know this in detail, but if revealing her name was a crime, why did not Fitzgerald go after Armitage right away? The last I had heard, the Wilsons were suing Cheney and Armitage?

I believe that Libby was/is probably covering for something else. I believe that Wilson did lie under oath; that her testimony leaves some questions that need to be looked at. One thing you can see in alot of the early Fleischer Betty Boops and Popeyes is that alot of the buildings from these cartoons which take place in an urban setting are modeled after tenement buildings from The LWR East Side of New York which the Fleischer Brothers and most of their animators had probably lived in at one point or another.
