There's no guarantee or even any real indication the current bailout will work. A lot of the damage has already been done in regards to the constriction of banking (WaMu and Wachovia have already been swallowed up by bigger banks). Beyond that I don't see where Fannie and Freddie are reined in by this Bill (Barney frank and Maxine Waters still want more subprime loans)...a lot of the causes of all this remain largely unchecked by this Bill.

The government SHOULD NOT have been involved in lending parameters period. They are not bankers and can't possibly understatnd banking. What Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac did was to push those subprime loans (loans to poor credit risks), guaranteed those loans and then packed them as Government-backed mortgage instruments, AFTER they realized the government could NOT possibly guarantee over $1 TRILLION in bad loans. Before 1995 traditional lending standards had worked great for over a century!

Does the Nordic Model you refer to pre-date de-regulation of the markets? If so , I am wrong in my estimation that deregulation and free market reforms were responsible for Denmark's economic sucess. The USA has a Mixed Economy. So if your earlier disparages on the US economy are valid they apply to the Nordic Model as well. Do you agree? Before continueing you must recognize that de-regulation is what led to prosperity in Denmark. Mixed Econ will fail as it has over and over again. Free Markets continue to be returned to. Governments have a vested interest in seeing the market as failing , so that the government can " rescue " the market and take over decisions for its population. Well Norway is even higher in the standards of living then Denmark you know and they are more socialdemocratic. The credit crisis we now face was caused by GOVERNMENT action NOT deregulation. The Community Reinvestment Act was re-tooled in 1994 and used to force banks to give out MORE loans to MORE low income to debt/high-risk borrowers. G W Bush even sought to eliminate the downpayment for such borrowers with Fannie Mae! Mandating these "subprime" loans (loans to high-risk/subprime borrowers) is equivalent to forcing stores to sell their goods below cost. Government action is at fault here.

But I have also read Naomi Klein and discovered Friedman fully supported Pinochet a horrible dictator and personally witnessed mass murders. Well, it makes sense if you know a little history. Compare capitalism with feudal era or communist countries or non-capitalist countries today. People in capitalist countries are much better off. Money is just a means to trade my work for someone elses work. Economy is not a zero-sum game. If I earn money it's not taken from somebody else. Work means creation of value, not stealing it. New ideas improve that creation of value, speeding up progress. Sorry, you don't know how it works.

Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction, and Youthenasia were amazing albums, but some of their albums after that weren't to great. Marty did make megadeth creative, but you make it sound like their are dependent on him to make creative music. yeah, many accomplished guitarists, quit their bands in order to make their own music. those who master instruments, they always want to push the boundaries and become more of a virtuoso type and this means instrumental music genre is more suitable to what they're looking for, and not vocal oriented type music. other examples: paul gilbert, steve vai. this is i think one of marty's reasons of not going back to megadeth.

Someone PLEASE tell me, what is so great about the tornado of souls solo? Friedman is great, but that solo really doesn't have extreme technical skill nor a melodic approach or sound. BTW both guitarists here are not at there best. Banshee makes sense. You have to look at why special interest benefit. The Government sells them US Securities to monetize debt for money it doesn't have and depends on expertise from these interest to run itself. The problem is we've shifted from a small representative government to a one that depends on expert committees and working groups to guide a seemingly uneducated and idealistic public. What worries me is who the government pays with the money it borrows: Military, defense contractors, drug industry, construction, and other industries lobbied for. Everyone paid deposits their earnings in commercial banks and, with fractional reserve banking, adds to the money supply.
