Ever wonder how Gradius would play out as a text game (remember Zork?)
Here's a fake game I made up with Photoshop to show how a text version of Gradius would or wouldn't work.
It's been pointed out that true text adventures don't have the C: prompt - that comes from a long span of not playing text games, and creating this video with pure DOS and Photoshop.

It would make an interesting series, turning random games into text adventures, but I'm only sticking with Gradius. You would lose the humor in something like God of War, a shmup just makes a good video because it "doesn't fit" the text pattern.

(To soulreaper7x) Some short conversations during stage 2 & stage 7 & stage 8 which cannot be skipped, that is what they called the storyline. One of the reason is that it is important so the player will understand what the unidentified ship in stage 2 is about, and what the other Vic-Viper is about. The other reason is that the conversation also fits the background musics specifically designed for the game.

Well I struggle a bit off the start, mainly because no one was around and I had to answer the phone lol. Besides that I did pretty good. Struggled a bit when the brains with arms came out and such. The last hallway gave me trouble also. It still turned out to be a warpless, deathless run :D. Hope you enjoy.

Never completed it as a kid, but doing much worse now lol... slowed down brain i guess. Looking on my msx game case mind it seems there was a few little differences, the boss ships are much bigger by the looks of it and as i remember, wierd. also the big head things are blue instead of brown and i havent seen in the video [i may have missed it though] the skelleton/bones type enemies that hang off the level [much liek the giant heads] so i dont know if that wasnt in the nes version maybe

This was the first game i ever played, but before it came out on the nes, named nemesis on the MSX console [1986, i was 5]which was my first ever games console/computer when i was very ickle. I recently maanged to source a brand new copy but unable to find a working msx locally so i was quite chuffed when i noticed it on the wii virtual console.

Damn i love this game, it's been quite a while i havent played this, 8 years or so. bu this game was my favourite in those days :), oh and after 2:33 one time something happened and my ship automaticly went into light speed, and a lot of those statue heds where spinning arround :D, after 20 seconds it stiooped and i was in the statue heads level... i was like wtf :D

The final stage of Gradius Gaiden on the PSX, being played by myself, using Vic Viper (wouldn't have it any other way).
Quite a big video, this one, clocking in at over 8 minutes in length and 79MB in file size. It actually wasn't as hard to create as I had thought it would be; it only took about 5 attempts to beat the stage on 1 life. The moving walls are what gave me the most grief.

Fun stuff. I can't wait to finally get this game. Not much can be said for your friend, but if I was in that position, I'd be almost the equivalent of that =P. I'm trying to do whole levels (any Gradius game) without using save states in them which is pretty good training =P.
