im also indian. and there are PLENTY of indian movies that dont copy hollywood. in fact MOST dont. and bollywood is'nt the only indian cinema. if you chose to watch trash like dhoom 1 and 2 well then yeah. also, bollywood dancing IS a dance style of its own. it borrows from all of india's dances, and has been developed over the years through its cinema. I agree with you there as most rappers etc do carry a lower moral standard with their music, but it coincides with society today. I think there are many musicians, artists and people who are trying to break away from this but you got to scratch under the surface to find them. Tis music is great, I've recently only just discovered Miles Davis. Any recommendations for other jazz musicians........I like the 1930s/402/50s detective movie style......that even isnt a genre haha!

Well there it is. Listen! I heard the original members of "Return to Forever" kicked butt in Bronx, NY. this past August 2008. An elder Jazz buff expressed the brilliance they musically offered after a 20 semi year hiatus. Lenny White (drummer) even gave a story of how his Therapist helped him to play again. The past years Lenny's arms went out on him at some period - that he couldn't even lift his arms. Lenny official thanks to his Therapist for his sudden physical recovery. True story.

I am from Belgium and know quite a lot of Belgium jazzmusicians, and I'll tell you not many are bragging about their abillities, eventhough some play very impressive, it's really not a common thing..

I find that, instead of using a metronome, use something like BandInABox, but pretend it's a metronome. Also, hearken to the adage: always play rhythmically. With BandInABox your rhythmic mistakes will become glaringly obvious (unlike with a metronome). Rhythmic mistakes turn into harmonic mistakes. Harmonic knowledge can help your rhythm. So, to improve your rhythm, study harmony as well. Play like a drummer.

Their harmonics weren't identical, but they BOTH used whole tone passages, heavy blues scales, bebop scales, and mixolydian scales simlarly. Their passing root/harmonic motions over existing changes didn't differ much. I heard them both add in sharp (or augmented) 5 (and 4) tones over V7 chords to transition to the next chord. There was a similar emphasis on 3rds and 7s. If this was michael brecker or dave liebman verse one of these guys, it would be a different story with the harmonics.

While Carters technique is more aggressive and tone is abrasive, Redmans is tone softer and licks are smoother and less intense- they both used similar bitonal/multitonal harmonics when they'd go into altered chord subs. I'd have to say that I enjoyed Carter a little more in this clip because of his intensity and abrasiveness. I'm def not saying redman is totally unenjoyable either (I have 5 of his albums)

Redman is certainly capable of playing the technical tricks, smoke and mirrors being spewed by Carter at any point he wishes. The important thing here is to understand the purity of melodic phrasing, story telling, as well as the control of the instrument due to developing ideas of purpose and direction...the kind of story telling that is exhibited here by Redman, and definitely not by Carter. What Redman plays is far more meaningful. He's actually maintaining a conversation with the band....

No one has mentioned the fact that blade just played a ridiculous drum solo..I mean Brad Mehldau?, SHMAD MEHLDAU. Come on, Give Blade his due compliments. His left hand, his use of 4ths...that became a "requirement" for many, many jazz pianists after him. That said, Bud Powell was a master and the same can be said about Hancock: these pianists become legends either we want or not. Bud Powell, McCoy, Hancock have COINED JAZZ PIANO styles.

I do think she deserves to be in the top 10, but, in the beginning, she and Gev were weaker when it came to making a connection with thier partner.
