I think you may be confusing physical prowess with "skill." While an instrument like this may not necessarily (depending on the musical context itself) be physically demanding, it provides the user a different way of approaching music creation. After all, music isn't a competitive sport -- if the user thinks it sounds good, isn't that the point?

I'm not an expert but I tried it during more than one hour yesterday. The Kaossilator can generate samples which are already in the rythm bank. you can't add your own samples inside, but you can use the Kaossilator with the KP, for exemple, to extend the Kaossilator's possibilities =)

I agree whole heartedly. A good composer will never be replaced in toto by a machine. You nailed it spot-on, as did sirmontag above. Composition is a human activity b/c it's tied directly to both the soul & emotions. Neither which infinite CPU, hard-drive space, nor RAM will 'ever' possess. A computer can randomize notes properly-according to scale-adding enough mathematical variation to come across with occasionally interesting music. That's the limit. I don't care what Ray Kurzweil thinks. =)

Seriously, Denkitribe has sold me a ds-10, and an electribe emx. Not in the sense of actually SOLD me these things, but in the way an advertisment "sells" products to people. The videos posted by Denki have demonstrated not only the range of functionality of these products, but also the "musicality" of them, when used in the right way. Far too many youtube videos from others merely show the functions, or are just musically awful - not so here. Denkitribe, go pester Korg for some money.

Actually from tooling around with the DS stuff, I found it does have a sampling rate of 44,100 Hz, so the quality isn't actually too bad for exporting.

I have actually connected the DS-10 up to a fair size system and I do connect it up to my setup when I play around at home. While yes it doesn't have the high rate that you would get with a real synth I think you would be suprised how good it actually sounds mate. But I doubt if I would ever use it if I wanted to do any real recording, but you could use it during a live set and get away with it I reckon.

It sounds terrible, awful piano sounds, awful strings, 8-bit guitars, awful lo-fi drums, why do people buy this type of garbage when even free computer programs like Garageband sound better. BTW. If you want awesome piano sounds, buy a mac, get garageband (free) and then buy Ivory and run that as a plug-in.

Well in my opinion the korg m3 is a better sythn then the yamaha motif xs but the xs sounds have a better quality then the the m3 and plus real amazing piano sounds. If your looking for the best sythn combies and programs get the M3 If you want the best for piano with sythn get the xs, I don't know about roland fantom G, I only use korg and yamaha sorry for not having a answer

I had the 61 key Triton (silver one) around 2002 and again I yearn for this M3. Trouble is the piano's always sound pretty bad, you'd have to spend £6,000 on a synth piano to get anywhere near a real piano and even those are not good enough, they only have one instrument and are £6,000 hehe.

I can't wait! I don't know where you'd buy it here in the US though (as far as retail stores go). The DS-10 isn't a typical game to find on a shelf. I've talked to several game stores who never heard of it, nor even have it on their lists. I imagine this will have to be an online purchase. I can't see stores in the US such as GameStop and Walmart and other department/electronic stores carrying this.

i use ableton, before that i used reason 4. i must say ableton rips reason to shreds, but you can also rewire reason and ableton to run together (very easily). the main benefit of ableton is it supports vst plugins which opens up a whole new world compared to reason.

No. The Kaoss Pads have always been effect units, using the X+Y pad to control the effects. The KP3 includes sampling and looping capabilities as well as some subset of the RADIUS synth engine (by the way - if anyone can tell me how the synth capabilities in the KP3 compare with the Kaossilator, it would be appreciated). So with the KP3 you can sample and tweak live audio, just run effects, mix in your own loops, use as a controller, or do whole performances using nothing else.

I think what this guy is talking about is the sensitivity of the knobs, am I wrong? I don't have the machine, but this is actually probably a limitation of MIDI, which has a limit of 128 distinct values for any control.

As for MIDI resolution - most sequencers call it PPQN - Pulses Per Quarter Note. However, since the 'tribes are 16-step machines, a higher resolution would not be of much use; can't make steps inbetween anyway. Velocity sensitivity has its uses - but for drums it's more sensible to solve this with Motion recording if one wants slight variations in sound, but something like the ReDrum system of 3 fixed velocities (quiet, mid, loud) without using Accent would be nice too.

I learned a lot from this video. Currently I have Electribe EM-1 but I was thinking getting the older model drum machine Electribe R for all the effects it has. I had no idea that you could step record while it was playing. I knew you could input notes in real time and see them displayed where they are in real time, which I often did for the drums. But I always had trouble with the synths, so I'm going to see if this works for the EM-1 too.

What is MIDI resolution? MIDI isn't even audible. Also it's really pointless to have velocity sensitive pads if most of the time you're just inputting data. Just use a MIDI keyboard controller if you want velocity sensitivity.
