This song is the first I ever heard from Stereolab, first hearing it only a few days ago, only now discovering them. Next month, they are coming to a club very close to where I live and there is NO WAY that I can go see them because it is on a Monday night and I work 2nd shift on a job I will begin in two weeks and cannot afford to lose. Damn. I absolutely love this song and all the others posted here. Wish I could have seen them with Mary - what a tragedy.

Just discovered this Stereolab album and am absolutely in love with the retro sound. Even the cover art is perfect - it reminds me of my father's old school books on electronics. It's funny how this 1997 Stereolab release coincided with Saint Etienne's stab at 70s retro Swedish pop.

really nice work! just a thing, i can hear your kick sweeping in phase, this is becasuse the oscillator you use doesn´t restart the waveform for each trigger, so it change over time and sometimes loose punch... you can make some fixed phase kicks using just the LFO with phase retrigger option...just slave it frequency to a generic master oscillator and change the rate until it reach the frequency you want

Love this machine.. we have one at school with 2 tiers. Upcoming project is to recreate the sound of the skytrain in vancouver (monorail) using it. I've been going in after hours to play around with it and im lookin forward to it.. 2.5 hours gave me a basic understanding of a lot of the modules

You can make just about anything with this module by varying the angle on the ends. This video shows the 60-degree module, which makes the Tetrahedron, Hexahedron, and Icosihedron (the first 2 at the end, and the pink foil one)

The big soccer ball requires pieces with different angles on each end. It's tricky, but you can figure it out. The angles are 60 and 72.5 degrees I think... not sure. I actually just eyeball it.

My Advice - DO NOT start with the tetrahedron... start with the cube. The 90-degree piece is diagrammed in the PDF link. The tetrahedron is too hard to get together because you can't fit your fingers inside through the holes and you have to do a little 'trick' to get the last part in.

That's what I did in the video - the 3 pieces are all from a single sheet. You can use any size paper, and you can save one fold by using a 4x3 piece. I don't like that method because it results in the inside of the shape being white (unless you use full-colored paper), but the parts are slightly easier to get together when you use 4x3 paper.

I went and played around on a Oasys a few months back, I didnt like the interface all that much and for 8k dolars it should have a button you press that pops out a midget who can make you a sandwich while you make up new patches. Cool concept but I'll stick with my Arp 2600, Ms80/20, and a Nord Modular.

I'm just saying no matter how nice the machine is, they won't improve the operator. If you think analog synthesizers are kids toys you're entitled to your opinion. But if it's just because they can't do what your Oasys does, maybe you're not realizing that your Oasys sounds good because it's doing most of the work for you. If you never use any of the presets on your Oasys and craft every patch from scratch like someone does with the ps-3100, I take it all back.

If you have a PS, you ought to be ashamed for so casually dismissing them. ;) I am not dismissing the Oasys, merely pointing out that it, while being extremely powerful, is essentially a computer with a keyboard hanging off of it. The PS series is a wholly analog group of devices, and as such, has a character of sound that cannot be directly duplicated by digital devices. It's really like comparing apples and oranges. I would agree that it is most likely only best for collectors, though.

Theres 23 or 24 of them in a starting circle (or base). I glue them together... a single piece has two points, make sure they are facing out, then once its all together you have to (carefully) bend it into the next position so the points are facing up and the bottom of the base is flat. Good luck.

To Teroniusmonk, this particular system is not polyphonic, so the only way to get chords is by pre-tuning the oscillators to different intervals, but the ARP 2500 has been used for conventional music, in conjuction with multi-track recording, back in the 1970's. David Hentchel used the 2500 for the opening of Elton John's "Funeral For A Friend", that's one example.

hmmm I use my 2600 all the time and it's my fav synth, but the 2500 sounds very different to these ears, PLUS it has a huge amount of modules that aren't available in the 2600. Still, a 2600 is an amazing synth..
