I'd say a good chunk of people in Montreal are Bilingual , so they can speak both languges well. But there are those who can only speka French and those who can only speka English (me). I'm not an economy expert, i'd say it's decent. Minimum wage is , like , 8 bucks , 8-something an hour.

I LIVE in Montreal , i walk the streets every day , and in I can assure you , you hear far more snippets of converation in English than you do in French. Of course there's loads of french , but in Montreal it's like 50/50; in the more remote areas of Quebec you couldn't find an anglo to save your life.

MY language is german, so nobody speaks my language outside europe anyways... i'm not complaining about that, i just think that it's ridiculous of a busdriver to force me to speak french (actually he was able to speak english, but wouldn't speak english with us - tourists), if you came to austria you'd probably speak english with our busdrivers (would you find it nice of them to answer you in german...although they ARE able to speak english?)

You're right, unexpected90: many bus drivers & the less educated people are more reluctant to speak English, since they still see it as the language of the oppressor (Québec & Eastern Canada up to Louisiana was colonized by France & then invaded by Great Britain). Mind you, wouldn't you make the effort to learn Spanish if travelling to Latin America (where very few people outside of the business / university communities speak English), or you'd complain that people don't speak YOUR language?

quand je suis allée a montreal j'y ai trouvé un garçon de la seyne sur la mer qui m'a emenné à un bar marseillais à montreal qui avait une grosse bouteille de pastis fait en "plastic" dont on pouvais faire des photos avec. de toute façon, c'est un endroit où les français du sud vont pour reclamer du froid. c'est chouette, prés du parc du mont royal mais j'ai oublié l'adresse.. desolée. As a jazz pianist, Diana is extremely talented as a piano player. She was playing when she was three years old, a born genius with perfect pitch. She has great swing and voicings, and is far from trite. You need to listen to more of her playing. Try to do what she can and does. It's no easy task, and to sign while you are doing it...that is why she is so popular and deserves it. She is no Ella, but Ella wasn't a piano player, too.

She's utilized her pouty looks to financial but not artistic advantage, making album after album where she's in skimpy undies looking sultry and murmuring about love. @thekeymasta: Dianna was a jazz force and riffing long before she met Elvis and they got together. She's got a great voice, and that's what most people want to hear. More than a few people who like her "cool jazz" vocal work probably would not enjoy her instrumental work nearly as much. If you haven't already, I suggest you listen to some of her instumental performances for the real improv and originality you crave.
