Yeah. It's even slower than 1975 Dragster with tons of HP. I have 1994 Miata with 1.8L engine - you can easily wipe-out cars with more HP because, surprise, it's not only about HP. It's all about weight to power ratio. It's not a sports car though - my opinion is it was made to give fun and pleasure when driven and this is what this car makes awesomely great. Cheers.

seeing I'm a miata owner myself, I dont own a hardtop for my 90 miata, but the idea of a retractable hardtop is a sweet idea if your in a area where it rains a lot. But here in California, no worries really only time we use our hardtops are for long term parking or during winter and turning our miatas into spec-miata =)

This video is dead on! I have a 99 Mazda Miata that I bought with 91K miles on it for $7800, and I will run that car into the ground before I get rid of it!!! It is one of the best inexpensive sports cars on the market. The thing people always tell me besides saying I'm gay since I have one, is that it's only a 1.8L I4, but who cares when the car only weighs 1800 lbs. The thing I LOVE about it is that all you have to do is give it gas on a wet road and it drifts like a mother f$&%$er! Cheers!

Personally, I feel that putting away criminals at all costs (even if it risks public safety somewhat), is vital to deterring further crime. That's the kind of car that u don't realy need more power, but if you do, internal changes like Port n polish and valve job + a CAI would be enough imo. The one thing that it really need imo is an H&R spring kit to drop that ride height and reduce body roll.

This is not a gay or girlie car. In europe most common cars are FWD, so I think that an RWD, 50:50 weight and with Limited Slip Diff (standadrd on hi-spec 2.0s) should not be girlie, as this is true sports car made for fun driving. If you want a girlie car take a green VW Beetle convertible, or a white Mini convertible

I'm a 16 year old male, and im proud to say that I bought a mazda mx5 as my first car. its a 5 speed manual soft top, base model, couldn't afford much more than that, and I have to say that I love it. handles beautifully, the engine sounds perfect, and a relatively good 0-60 also. some people say that its a gay car and only girls should drive it, but my response to that is always: if you think how big your car is determines your sexuality, then you are obviously compensating for something....

The only people who call miatas "girl cars" or " fag cars" are people who are uneducated about cars. Why would you hate a lightweight RWD platform with incredible handling... it may be underpowered but all you need is a turbo kit and you have a badass car even more... badass. Go to a AutoX and ride with a decent driver in a miata. It will be one of the most fun rides you will ever have.

Really well done. You've pretty much nailed everything worth mention. Two quick thoughts: - I've found it's easier to just yank the visors out of their holders and live without. They're pretty well useless, get in the way of the top, and make a small windscreen seem even smaller. - The cover for the top isn't as bad as people think. I do the snaps first and pull the clip parts over second. Takes me less than a minute, looks better, and saves the top's sensitive underparts from UV damage.

Go to any track or autocross school and one of the first things they teach you is KEEP BOTH HANDS ON THE FREAKING STEERING WHEEL! You WILL driver faster, more accurately, and safer with both hands on the wheel. Try driving at a track with one hand...you WILL get laughed at by the fast drivers. ;)

they do handle great but imo the miata is better. miata is 50/50 and lotus is well rear weight biased. miata can better optimize grip on all four corners. rear biased cars are very twitchy. the lotus could have pulled away but it takes the concentration and experience of an f1 driver. in the lotus once grip is lost in the rear you can kiss ur ass goodbye, the miata on the other hand is extremely forgiving bc of its 50/50.

Yeah, take on board you're point re- "compared" to an Elise. I've got the mark3 2.0 Sport which has been Eibached -30mm and a full 4 wheel geometry carried out, which does make the car much, much sharper. The MX does have an image problem for the uninitiated. Mo probs with constructive critisism comjng from someone who has driven them though. Cheers.

"like a city runabout"..............compared to an Elise. The MX5 is much more road focused. It's softer, rollier, slower at everything, you feel sat on it, rather than in like you do in an Elise. I think MX5s great, I've driven several (obviously or I wouldn't comment, you driven an Elise?) but the Elise is another level. So sharp and immediate it makes the MX5 "FEEL" like a city runabout by comparison. A Radical would make the Elise feel like one too probably.

yea, what Sis has said....Amir, do a manual conversion, learn to drive stick, practice driving, then try this in say...3 or 4 years....drifting is a skill that takes a great deal of practice and patience to even get the basics down....the driver of this miata probably has been doing racing for a long time (I'm guessing he started when he got his licence and is probably in his mid 20s minimum) and has great control of his car (miata short wheelbase = a little twitchy when it comes to drifting).

Two quick points for you...HP per litre..big issue to you, not so big to us as alot of us are more concerned w/ TORQUE rather than HP. 3.5L V8 w/ 300+ HP that only produces 250ft/lbs of torque does not interest me. Second the whole "US cars are rubbish and can't go around corners" Did it ever occur to you that we're NOT as concerned about goin around corners considering we live on a large continent w/ straight roads? :)

yeah, that's terribly inefficient. But in a small car like this it would still be a blast. Of course a turbo charged 4 cylinder could do just as well. But it wouldn't have the torque of a v8

I kind of agree with you, but I drove an old girlfriends stock Miata. The darn thing was fun, I loved driving it. I looked at buying a Porsche boxer and drove one. The Miata was more fun at way less money. It's after all a chick car, but that can be good, because girls come up and go "how cute". ha ha

Agreed, the Cobra, better looking and cool, but a Miata is cheap and a sleeper. A Miata has what 100 HP at the rear wheel, surprise when you lay down two solid rubber lines a 12 sec 1/4. A Cobra is not stealth or a sleeper. To the point, handling is not a question, its not a Ferrari nor a straight line driver either. Its a cool V8 conversion. A go cart for the street.

You replace the whole drive train including the differential and new half shafts. No you don't use the stock tranny and rear end or axles. You definitely should add bigger brakes. I have a masters in mech engineering and WHAT? What car do you drive now? How many V8 conversions have you done? Do you mean weight and distribution? adds about 250 lbs. total, distribution after conversion with a half tank, 53/47. It drive and feels fine. It's a great mod but it takes talent, skill, shop resources and money to make it work, which I guess you have none. They drive great with V8.
