The legend behind Paxman v Howard was that Paxo was being told in his earpiece to keep the interview going because the Newsnight production crew were having problems loading up the next item; so he kept asking the same question. When Paxman interviewed Howard again in 2004, he asked him this question once more. The answer was "No". If this is true, it really made me wonder why Howard didn't say so in the first place.

The funny thing about this interview is that in 2005 the BBC obtained details of the sacking of Derek Lewis (not availible at the time of this interview) under the Freedom of Information Act. Michael Howard DID NOT threaten to overrule him. Why the hell did he not say so at the time? This interview cast a shadow over him for years to come and blew his chances of becoming Prime Minister in 2005

Paxman is awesome. He drills home. If the politicians all got the idea that they were going to get hammered everytime they dodged a question they'd spend some time thinking about how their political life should be ran. Of course it doesn't make him popular, but it is the politician who has to answer to the public, not the other way around. They work for us, We do not work for them.
