I was slightly disappointed when I downloaded this onto my Wii to find out that this version is very different than the far superior Atari ST version. :( This is good and I can't stop playing this as it's still to this day very addictive but without the epic music at the start and the high scores it's not as good!

In Japan the PC engine (known as the Turbografx-16 in America) had better games than the Sega Genesis. It's sad that NEC didn't release those games on the Turbografx-16 in the States. They passed on games like Street Fighter II: CE (which was better on the PC Engine than the SNES version) for crap like JJ & Jeff.

I love the way you dispatch with the level 4 boss. I struggled a bit with him, trying to hit him a bit at a time and then dodge all those millions of bullets and lasers he sends out. In fact I find level 4 a bit of a bastard, esp on the speccy where you only had a few continues

bits and pieces taken from galaga 88. Repel the invaders from the Galagan kingdom. Galaga 88 was first ported to the PC Engine in Japan 1988, renamed Galaga 90 for the TurboGrafx. It was also ported to the Sega Game Gear soon after.. and only in 2005 was galaga 88 brought home to other consoles.

IMO, one will never find voiceovers in his own language really attractive or cool-sounding. Guess it's easier to find a language "cool" if you didn't grow talking it. The TurboGrafx-16 didn't have the best marketing in the US, either, as the CD-ROM attachment and the Turbo Express were too expensive for everyone's liking, and it didn't seem to be marketed enough to attract enough sales. So that's where the idea of the PC Engine's name came from, right? It might have been a poor technique, since Japan wasn't as PC-savvy as the rest of the world was at the time.

I always thought that the box art for The Kung Fu was ugly (but China Warrior's better-looking). There's a user on the PCEngineFX boards whose name is Necromancer. The monsters look pretty cool, too. I recongnized Bikkri Man World (also call Wonder Boy in Monster Island) from the gameplay video found on Sunteam_Paul's channel. This was well done by Hudson Soft.

just first level of Tatsujin aka Truxton for the pc engine... very very hard game and makes the megadrive version seem like childs play.. this is running on emulation since I'm undecided whether to buy this because of the difficulty.. The music on the other hand is just heaven and I think trumps both the arcade and megadrive versions. Its pretty rare title too so its expensive.

Man no one knows how to play this game correctly. If you never pick up the new lasers then a P appears where the orange laser shows up. If you just follow the mini bosses right after that extra P really closely with the orange laser you can kill them before they even fire. Amazing game, but looks much better on the Genesis.

i found that you should never have 5 guns never max out your weapons as no more "p" power ups will appear then if you die you will have to collect 5 all over again which at later stages is impossible. always try to have 4 "p"s then if you die the next one to appear is usually a p

lots of tricks but the best thing is to memorise the patterns as suggested by davbob. after the first cycle the number of bullets on the screen is insane, but by then you have the 5 blue lasers most of the time and zap nearly everything that comes in from the top and sides. any recommendations for best way to record from mame?

good clip, thanks for sharing. totally loved this game when it was in the arcades (mid '90s), got the MD version (rubbish) and then the mame (excellent, true to form). mini (read: sad) claim to fame on this game is that i managed to complete 3 whole cycles (i.e. level 600+) on the arcade machine (hard mode) without dying... had to go home in the end, had to leave it for my friends to continue.

I own the game and I can't past the third stage. If you enjoy tearing your hair out like I do, then get this game Digi. It is ridiculously harder than MD version though. This is the one PCE game that needs a tate mode.

Well,basicly the music in this and the Megadrive/Genesis version is equal. Though I personally find the latter one a bit better (16-bit sound has something in itself). =) One good shoot´em up classic worth to remember (and get a copy of). Nice graphic,even better music and a long replay-value.

interesting play through. I only played the Genesis version of this game (don't know how or why I got it) and it's pretty tough...but you're right about the music in this version. MUCH better on the ears if you ask me.

Make NO mistake about it... this game is *just* as very tough in the PC-Engine version as it is in the arcade, except with even BETTER music and sounds!! ;) All around, it is a great translation for the system if I do say so myself!!! ^-^=b !

Hell, we don't want your acceptance, or the others of your sort who think that "next-gen" is anything new. The case is, all your games started with these, and all the massive companies can do, is re-create the same game with a different graphical engine. Sure, there good sometimes, but who wants to re-visit World War 2 for the fifth time? Apparently the creators of CoD5 do.

The nes version is so bad, I don't even consider it Parasol Stars. It plays like a type in game from the 80's computer magazines. The Gameboy version is little better. There is a rumored C64 version but no prototype has shown up after all these years. Supposedly Ocean was working on it. Definitely in my top 5 games.

Parasol Stars was also available for the NES and Game Boy, but those versions are nowhere near as good as the PCE/TG-16 version. The Amiga version looks and plays the way it should, but it's missing some of the music. The game really deserves a lot more attention than it gets though.

Parasol stars is a great pick for number one. The TG-16 is the ONLY game console with this game and it is the best in the whole bubble bobble series, making the TG a must own, if for no other reason than to play this game. It's either that or the Amiga which isn't a game console. With it's bright cheery graphics, gay music and addictive gameplay you have an arcade classic that should be in any gamers bag of games.

look at this video it looks 32 bit not 8 bit u know why the pc engine though 8 bit was faster than the segas 16 bit and the pc engine had 2 16bit graphic chips by nec with 512 colors at once and resolution up to 512-320 very few games used its potential this is 1 of them c engine also had the best streetfighter 2 back then many bought turbos just to play it anyway look at this beauty sega cd couldnt pull this off

Actually, theres a trick to the lv 2 Trashbag boss. before he enters his second form, just move Zonk the farthest right of the screen. If you just hang there, your jet boots will do the work and you won't even have to fight Trashpile.

Man i've played the US Version, and it is HOTNESS!!! It's a little funny that in the Japanese verion, the full charge-up attack is... well THAT! In the US version it's just a missile. I REALLY hope they put this on the Virtual Console!
