Unforunately, a lot of parents do have this attitude . . . . I read somewhere that perfectionists have miserable children, and I think that's true. Perfect just doesn't exist, and people like that are incapable of loving themselves, so how can they love others? And expecting your kids to live out your own childhood dreams even if they don't want to is very deluded and harmful. I like the awkward aesthetic of the video. It strikes me as being very personal, especially at the start and the end. Reminiscent of shoegaze. But I don't agree that music is "about" one thing or another. For you it could be about studio perfection and for Joe Youtube it could be about drugs and dancing, and neither of you would be more right than the other. Music is a human creation that exists primarily for human enjoyment, and as such should be treated subjectively rather than objectively.

I agree. I don't think the video detracts from the music at all. Certainly less distracting than the average video. This video is the truth: music isn't about jumping around a stage, flinging your guitar around your body, shooting fireworks,etc. It's about standing in the studio with your instruments, playing them.

With all great respect to the late great Pavoratti, may his memory be a blessing, this is not a song that needed an operatic treatment. It works best almosr recited matter of factly, the overwrought over-emotional part when Pavarotti burst into his aria almost made me burst out laughing--but when Lou Reed sings I want to cry.
