Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore this film and I cry every time I watch it, but this kiss annoys me a little. The suspense as he V.E.R.Y. S.L.O.W.L.Y. leans down to kiss her just kills me... I'm like "hurry up, c'mon, kiss already!!" everytime I see it.

I completely agree with you. They also changed my life and I owe them so much for what I am now. I wouldn't be as I am if I hadn't found out their wonderful music. They helped me so much since I discovered them in 1994, and it's impossible to descibe how good they make me feel every time I listen to their songs, no matter the album... I love them for their unique way of being and playing, I really think their music is a miracle.

My favorite band. This was such an important song for me. I was 15 when I heard it. At this point in my life I was trying to figure out who I was, so to speak. One way of defining myself was to look at what music would I pick. I liked many types of music, but none of them I would say completely described who I was as a person. Then one day I heard "Pretty Persuasion" for the first time. I started hearing other REM songs from that era, and I thought This is who I am.

in the book this scene is completly different; she's not supposed to be running after him; instead after reading the letter, she seemed sick so when she wanted to go back home they insisted that charles her brother in law must accompany her, in their way they met fredric and because charles had other committments he suggested that she should continue her way with fredric, becides there was no kiss or whatsoever, they just talked the whole thing over and that's it.

Hola: He leído "Persuasión" hasta tres veces y la verdad es que no me agrada mucho esta versión. Los protagonistas son físicamente guapos pero no es suficiente. Han destrozado la historia con un final en el que practicamente ella termina rogándole a él y la novela no es así. Hacerla correr por toda la calle. NOOOOOOO ahí patinaron. Jane Austen no haría eso con ninguna heroína. La versión de 1995 es mejor en ese sentido, aunque sus protagonistas no son visualmente muy agradables.

I think the giggling is cute & makes the scene priceless. They both look silly & in love -- as you imagine they might have been 8 yrs before! The actress has been victimized a bit by the bad camera angles. [There are extreme close ups of SH that are almost uncomfortable to watch!] With RPJ, they don't make this irritating mistake (although, to his credit he is also a fine actor!). Too much film is shot of just the face, making it boring for those who haven't made up their minds to like it

My reaction to the film is that Rupert Penry Jones makes a VERY dashing Captain Wentworth, despite some unfortunate lines given to him towards the end of the film. My main problem with the adaptation was the girl who played Anne (Sally Hawkins?). She giggles a little too much at the end, and I don't think is strong or serious enough for Anne. At the beginning especially she seemed to always need a moment to compose herself, and I've always pictured Anne being stronger than that. Overall good.

she can't breath properly because of the excitement, that's what she's doing! It almost made my heart stop... I bet a woman could do with a pair of high heels in a situation like that - at least she wouldn't have to wait for a man to bend towards her. It was quite an interesting take on the scene.

thank you for such a pleasent reply. may i recommend you not watch any other adaption since you seem to think it beneath and not to your taste. you may find a greater pleasure in reading the book since you find the television translation below your expectations. it is alot better than any adaption could be. And finally Sally Hawkins is a great actress. i would like you to try and act out some of the things they do.

this movie was really great... i mean... it was less of a comedy and more of a sad tale of a girl who is twisted into only wanting to become famous and uses people to get what she wants...with everyone paying the price in the end in some way ... 5/5 stars with 10/10 acting and 94% overall a good storyline with a dark satire to it

The studio version is overproduced (who decided the light-rock percussion track was a good idea?). Still a lovely song in any case, but I'm glad to hear there's a live version preserved on commercially available recording.

My favorite version of this is the live take with RT & Teddy on Celtschmerz (possibly the finest RT live album, available only from his web site); but this comes pretty close. I saw them do this live at the Buskirk in Bloomington, IN and it was mesmerizing. If RT comes to your town, go see him!
