Are you retarded? Any moron without a brain can tell the difference between a violin section and a synthesized string pad. When they play live they leave the first violin section out of the playback, which is the part that Tuomas plays. If you're going to argue that the popularity of a band is in a directly inverse relationship to it's "essence" then good luck. In fact, the numbers doesn't prove any fucking shit thing. Actually they prove nightwish is more popular now, but definitely lost their essence. Err I meant that it's natural tendancy to like what we hear first, but of course that's not true all the time. I saw the misheard lyrics of Wishmaster several years back, but it wasn't until they enlisted in Marco, Anette, and the London Session Orchestra that they really caught my attention. I'm a classical and jazz upright bassist, and a jazz/rock/r&b electric bassist, so when Nightwish combines classical with metal that's just like musical sex for me. rofl

As for my love of Tarja's voice, it's not simply because it's what I grew accustomed to first. I also have a very deep love of classical music, and classical voice in particular, that is indedpendent of my appreciation for metal. I took classical voice lessons for several years before I heard Tarja and have an extensive collection of popera (Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban, etc.) Nightwish was the first popera in a metallic format to grab my attention. Unfortunately, it's human nature for us to be more accustomed to what we hear first. I also can't wait for the next album. Just comparing the epics of each album, Beauty of the Beast < Ghost Love Score < Poet and the Pendulum. By the looks of things, this next one is going to be the greatest song of all time lol (until they release another album). But I think overall the sound quality, use of orchestra, meaning, lyrics, songs, etc have improved with each Nightwish album.

Yea. Ghost Love Score has those really long sustained notes for Tarja to show off her classical vibrato technique. Although Anette can't do that, I'm sure she would recreate a vocal melody accustomed to her vocal style, like she does on Wishmaster. It's just as good in my opinion; just different. It's the same way Tarja puts her spin on Gary Moore's Over the Hills and Far Away and makes it sound just as good, if not better.

I'll admit that I still prefer Tarja's vioce over Anette's. I rejected Anette at first, but that was before I heard The Poet and The Pendulum. I will always love Tarja's work with Nightwish, but Anette takes the band in a different and interesting direction. She can't do opera, but she can rock with the best of them. I'm eager for the next album. It should be even better, since Tuomas will be writing with her voice in mind. As for the old songs, there are songs that only Tarja can sing.

I saw Pharaoh and Kenny play together several times, they work together really magically. I'll never forget the show at the Blue Note in NYC where Pharaoh went off into his primal,soul yelps for an extended solo and Kenny came in afterwards and just took the whole place to church. It was divine...Definitely check them together if you have a chance.

I saw Don Elias with Sanborn at the Blue Note a few years back. He did a whole unnaccompanied solo with udus and all kinds of great stuff. Absolutely amazing. Sanborn was killer too and so was the bass player. Ricky Peterson? Richard Patterson? Pharoah sounds so at home with these guys in this video. His musicianship transcends boundaries like that.

nope. that's what I'm talking about. No one even knows that it was a guy. The 1974 original recording featured gary bond as joseph and peter reeves as the narrator. the music is also written for a tenor, which is why I think the 1974 recording is the best ever. please listen to it.
