Okay, this is how he did it. Derren brown does have amazing mental skills, and can "photo-read," but he did not memorize the whole dictionary. He memorized the page numbers where each section began, and ended. He also knows that about the same number of words are printed on each page, and knows that number. Knowing all this, and being derren brown, it would be fairly easy to estimate which word was chosen.

There's only one way this could have been done: Derren does indeed memorize some of the text, but only a fairly small section of it. He then uses his skills to direct the librarian to choose that section. I don't know how he does that on this occasion. However, I do know how Derren does a similar thing - if you watch the clip of Derren with Iain Banks where he directs Banks to choose a particular word from a huge number of possibilities.

Autism? Perhaps he's just a (I can't spell for my life) svont (that's how it's pernounced, anyways), someone who excels in one area, but lacks in others. It could be someone who can't cook or make friends but play piano well, to something this radical, but it isn't an excuse. He simply has great memory, and that doesn't mean he sucks at other stuff, he simply spoke a little late. Nothing wrong with that, quite amazing, actually.
