MR. Boone, I've been involved with some oil projects in the 1980's and early 90's. I believe you have the answer to out future energy problems. We cannot keep burning natural gas for electricity. Obama wants to do away with coal, No a good idea at the moment as we generate 50% of our electricity with coal. Replace coal with nuke power. It is a lot cleaner and safer source of eneergy.

There's only one way to solve the energy crisis and that is to use all possible domestic energy sources: alternative and oil. There IS enough oil to supply demand WITHOUT harming the environment?oil companies HAVE come out of the Dark Ages and have developed ways to eliminate pollution. Use the oil now while we build up a new energy infrastructure of nuclear, solar, wind, etc. The only thing is ethanol...give up on it, it's more expensive to refine than oil. I say use 'em all.

(continues) there is no point in digging any more wells, however much is left. There's no point in spending millions drilling a well to access a small puddle of oil. World reserves are approaching the crossover point now, US reserves are about at it. The lines aren't straight.. technology improvements flatten the cost line and price increases flatten the yield line, but this only delays the inevitable. Pickens isn't a rich man for no reason, he knows his stuff.

The idea that there is lots of oil off US coastlines is both true and dangerously misleading. The largest and easiest reached fields were exploited first. From then on, the cost of access has risen, but the yield has fallen. Imagine a graph with a vertical axis '$' and a horizontal axis 'time'. Time zero is when the first well was dug. Well if you listen carefully, even if we tapped every domestic source, we still would not have enough oil to satisfy our demand for foreign oil. Pickens is the most practical solution. I'm in Argentina where most cars run on both Natural Gas and Regular Gas. They just retrofit them. We can do the same. They learned the hard way that importing oil is a bad thing.

That's an ignorant statement. First of all not everyone has the money to sell their SUV and buy some hybrid car. Secondly small businesses depend on trucks and large vans, they are an essential part of business. Lastly I have an 2007 F-150 and it gets 19 MPG which is for a truck.

The uranium and plutonium can be reclaimed, as france and japan do (though only currently at something like 30%). It is something like 40 times more plentiful as silver, outnumbers tin, cadmium, mercury, and about even with arsenic, all used heavily for centuries everything from electronics components (arsenic) to freaking hats (mercury, it's why the mad hatter was...well, mad). It's rather easily stored and is expected to become a fuel source itself for subcritical and fusion reactors.

Boone is smart and obviously passionate. My concern is that there is NOT plenty of natural gas. It will peak within 10 years. When natural gas peaks, it has a very steep drop-off. Then what? His plan will work better if he increases the amount of wind and solar to a much greater scale.

As he mentioned from time to time, this isn't 100% certain to work. And if it did, it would only be temporary. But at least the man is offering very viable solutions. And even if it was only temporary (by temporary I mean it'd last decades), it'd still buy us time to get a longterm solution. We have some people claiming hydrogen's the answer, some saying solar, and others still saying electricity. We need the time this could buy to pick one and develop it accordingly.

Natural Gas could also be a bridge for Hydrogen Vehicles as well. Right now, Hydrogen can be produced from Natural Gas very cheaply. Basically, if we begin converting our gasoline vehicles to burn Natural Gas, we can build up a Natural Gas refueling infrastructure. Later (as you said, maybe in as little as 10 years) when fuel cell vehicles become feasible, they can easily piggy-back on the already existing Natural Gas infrastructure.
