I think I get it now. Elitists, I mean. They spend so much time looking up music that it pisses them off when someone stumbles upon a good band on a commercial or GH/RB. Rather than feeling happy for a good band who catches a good break (financially/exposure), they find it easier to turn up their nose and use the catch-all "sell-out." Elitists: fuck off. I wouldn't say that Mexicans are bad. The Mexicans tend to have a warmer tone even with the single coils, usually made out of poplar wood, with hotter pickups. The Americans have that crystal-clear glassy tone, usually made out of Ash or Alder. I have a Mexican with Seymour Duncan humbuckers. (SHR-1 and 59er) Also, an American with the stock single coils. It just depends on the sound you want.

Yes. What I think Dave's on about is how before 1977 when strats had only a three-way switch, it was possible to get other sounds by balancing the switch b/w pos 1 and 2 as well as pos 2 and 3. Guitarists did this to combine pickups for diff sounds including Hendrix. However, any strat made after '77 already HAS a five way switch to get the combined pickup sounds, so balancing the switch has no effect.I'm pretty sure most people who would watch this are new guitarists and have a post-'77 strat.

the inbetween pickup stuff he talks about here is incorrect. the number two selection turns the neck and bridge pickups on, making a tone that is in between the neck and bridge. you cannot go in between those two pickups. in the old strats they had a 3 way slector. this however allowed them to be switched into in between selections. because in between 1 and 2 on a 3 way would turn the other pickup on and make it sound like a 2 selection on a 5 way.
