This is no different than what a piano player does. The only reason why it's celebrated is because only a very select few can do it on guitar. And stanley is the only one i have heard do it well for jazz i mean. But he is a great musican and has some nice lines in his playing. No doubt about that.

Quelle merveille cette ballade, jouée par un si grand artiste, un régal à chaque fois que je l'écoute... Cependant, je trouve que l'on ne rend pas suffisamment l'hommage qui convient au compositeur, qui a eu le génie de faire naitre cette musique aussi complexe et tourmentée... Chaque fois que l'artiste joue cette ballade, je reste admiratif devant ces génies, chopin et les autres de sa trempe, qui nous ont transmis leurs émotions à travers leurs ?uvres.

With the first reason, tell me about it. Case in point: Scott Joplin. His rag pieces were meant to be played at a respectable pace to emphasize the melody. However many Jazz and Classical artists often speed them up just to showcase their talent. This even happened in Joplin's lifetime, and he often expressed his hatred for it. I actually don't like Horowitz's performance of this piece. I think Zimerman plays it the way it's meant to be played - totally legato and as smoothly as possible. At some parts of Horowitz's performance, he seems to rush through it, and (I mean no disrespect) Horowitz's Preto con fuoco is absolutely terrible. But it is hard to compare two great pianists. Me too. Horowitz'is much better than Zimerman. He plays with more feeling, more intense and is more human than Zimerman. I disrespect Zimerman for his "technique", because that is, in my opinion, the only thing his whole playing is based on. Of course "you're an amateur without technique", but I cannot agree to SkyandCloud or Krone191, because Horowitz has been one of the greatest Pianists of our time.

wnsbug You are dreaming about Hamelin's ability to create concertos. He does not have a fully functioning memory prediction framework in the neocortex. Composers have to process thousands of times more information than is in the score. You don't just make notes up and write them down. If you do it will sound awful. Creating a cadenza is in the 1 - 2 percent range of what it takes to create a concerto. Read Richard Kastle's myspace blog: Neocortex, Memory Prediction Framework
