Yes the data is toast. However, there are usually some things left behind in the registry and other locations each time something is cleared. Also you can use Encase's ability to look at what is called MACE times and you will notice that the size of the clusters changed and notes a Date and Time. So while you cannot get the data back you can make a forensic case out of it showing the destruction of evidence.

I use EnCase and I have been unsuccessful in recovering a harddrive which used a similar program as evidence eliminator, it appears to have overwritten the data but it looks like it's using a binary checkerboard method with two passes of overwriting "DoD standard", then a third pass of pseudorandom garbage. I've attempted to recover the unallocated space but no go, is this data toast?

Does anyone know? I have a samsung 500GB drive in a external casing, last week I powered this hd on, and I heard a very loud screeeech! noise. Does anyone know what that couldve been and why that is? I think hd's park the heads when shut down. this harddrive is in external casing, and when my windows shuts down the pc, I have to manualy shut down this disk. But I guess it heads will parkd like the rest of the internal drives i guess when I shut it down manualy, can any1 can confirm?

Hibernate actually is off. The computer has saved the data to the HDD. Anyways it's F8 you should be able to remove the hibernation info and you'll be able to restart.

Hey buddy you seem super cool and as a TBI survivor myself I am glad to have lived to see how your tbi changed you into an awesome person like mine has made mine better than the directioning it was heading. I am 20 now and I had it when I was ten. It takes ten years to recover fully or mostly but you can almost feel the head injury depart from your body at that tenth year and it's scary. Cody, after seeing your video i can tell that there si so much we can do with love, perseverance and faith. My friend was in a coma of 2 weeks after a terrible accident and even it happened 3 months ago, he is still at the hospital with severe brain damage. Your video revive my hopes for him, since he acts like a child, when he is 26, and doctors can't say much. 2, 4, 6 months, maybe even years will take for his complete recovery. Hey Cody, I am glad to see you have recovered as well as you have and in such a short period of time. I too sustained a TBI, but mine was in April back in '05. I'm fully functioning and I too was in a coma, although mine was only for a month. I just want to encourage you to keep on bettering your life with your second chance. I did a search for TBI and found your video. I had a TBI in october last year and it looked like your eyes were crossed while you were recovering, but it could have been the glare. If so, I was just wondering how long did it take for them to correct, because mine are still crossed and I was just hoping to get some input from another survivor. THROW A DOG A BONE! Dude, I had one of those Lacie Big Disks crash on me and while I've had success in the part with Data Rescue II in the past, this one is MUCH HARDER! The enclosure has 2 drives. As I understand, they're "RAID STRIPED". I pulled both drives and popped them into enclosures. one fired up, even though the computer wouldn't read it. I had a stuck file once, I tried to delete it using all means, nothing worked. I did notice it did not have an ending to the file name like example: .exe .dsc etc. and it was showing up as 0kbs. I decided to do a fresh reinstall of windows XP home.

PART 2 Make sure the functioning HDD is on Master jumper setting, and take the non-working HDD and set that jumper to slave. WHen you boot windows, you have to choose the functioning Operating System on the good HDD, just after BIOS loads. YOu should be able to explore the bad HDD under My Computer, and copy the raw data and files from the bad HDD to the desktop of the good HDD...I've done this several times...

I've had problems where I've had HDD that weren't able to boot Windows, but there is still data on the drive that I needed. What I usually do is what I call a "dummy boot". You get another different computer that has a functioning HDD that can boot windows. PART 1

I have a hdd from my old desktop pc. I couldn't log on anymore cause it was saying i had a damaged or corrupted file in the windows32 folder.. I couldn't fix it, the pc doesn't boot up properly due to damaged IDE connector on the motherboard. I got a new desktop pc, I wanna recover the files from the hdd but can't seem to because the files were in folders on the desktop and not in other locations of the hard drive. Love this song. Trocom01, Secret Chiefs 3 is the band of Trey Spruance, and he uses to work with Danny Heifetz and Clinton BAr McKinnon. Trevor Dunn uses to be in the band in their early recordings, but he was kind of a 'hired' musician, and he has stated in some ocassions that he has no real input in the band and that the main man is Spruance.

I WAS AT THIS RECORDING OF RECOVERY, in the audience, i must've been one of the oldest in the audience, ha ha.. as i was the only one interested in meeting SC3 after the show, i was able to hang out with them, got a hug from Trey and shared a Bounty Bar (they were throwing chocolate bars out in the audience throughout the show) with Danny! You know what really impressed me about this? Watch the jockey. In fact, watch all the jockeys... They hardly go to the whip on their mounts. I'm sorry to say that in North America at least, even with the horse physically telling them that a situation might be treacherous, a jockey would go the whip straight away. Not all, but a good lot of them would.

I don't watch the show, so I honestly and truthfully wouldn't know how he acts all the time. I see no irony in the usage of the word "punk". I simply just find him beyond awkward in the way that he converses with the band. It's like a school kid scrounging to fit in and relate, to find some window or glimpse of something they have in common. I find it mildly humorous as well. :)

I'm trying to do a head replacement on a WD Caviar SE (SATA 80gb) Date: Nov 2004, its a single platter but i don't seem to find a match for this drive. All the ones out there are multy platter year 2005 and up. What can I do in this case, would WD have a differrent model with a complatible actuator arm? Thank you

I've once had 2 identical drives failing at the first run. They started spinning and then spin down again making the worst noises. There was no data on it yet but it made me think about RAID and solid-state disks.

Keep in mind the fact that he gets mre Western Digital dead drives could be as simple as the people who are willing to pay to get thier data recovered just happen to own WD drives. I have a WD drive tha still works, its the original 4.2 Gig drive from when 200 Pentium MMX was state of the ART, LOL. Unfortunatlly, I just lost alote of date and it was in a RAID O array. I think he just gets more WD drives because WD has alote more drives out there than the others do.

Well, it looks like I'll be buying Seagate from now on. I just lost 300 gigs of work (non critical, thankfully), so I'm going to invest on a NAS with Seagate drives in RAID 5. This information is extremely helpful though, thank you very much for uploading.
