She's 23? Well, she was born in the mid-80s and is not in the target range at all. That does not mean someone her age cannot relate to it. However, it is more likely that an older person would. Being born in the 1960s or earlier is much more to one's advantage for relating to the film. Dustin's performance as Ben is brilliant. He put so much life into that character. His interest in following Elaine at the campus was so intense! Again, that music is classic. Here's to Mrs. Robinson!

I know what you mean about the ways she looks at the camera. Although I think she's trying to do the whole 'ethereal beauty' thing, she comes off (to me) as being a bit of a poser/pouter lol. The way she looks at the camera is very irritating, I think, but her eyes always bother me. I love her voice though, and she's actually singing this the right way (if you look at the original sheet music, Simon and Garfunkel always hit the lower notes and that makes the song less interesting to me.)

...I also have always liked "Sound of Silence," which of course I had heard long before I knew it was made by Simon and Garfunkel. Their songs were so legendary and so incredible that they touched everyone, and I'm sure everyone has heard their songs even if they didn't know who did them. In my lifetime (though also almost before my time), the other band that had nearly that kind of influence would be The Police. (Who on Earth hasn't heard "Every Breath You Take" or "Message In A Bottle"?)

Simon and Garfunkel was way before my time, but I loved this song ever since I heard it in a boxed CD set of their songs. I don't know why I never realized it before, but it's a very creative anti-war message, the way they interweave Scarborough Fair and the other song...a song about war and a folk song about impossible tasks. There's a reason why they interwove those songs and now I understand it.

Though I understand why people say its not that great because its just a simple jazz piece with Scarborough Fair-ish sounding parts, they forget that it requires quite a bit of skill to take such a complicated vocal duet piece and turn it into such a great jazz arrangement. Plus, it was play impeccably. True though, there were parts where I forgot I was listening to Scarborough Fair, but I certainly wouldn't call this a bad arrangement or performance.
