please do your research before you attempt to correct me.. it's just a tortoise shell pick guard. they can be easily changed. John took the SRV pick guard off and put that on to avoid comparison. at 4:15 in the video you can clearly see that the tremolo is left-handed and has gold hardware. john's signature strat has a standard tremolo with silver hardware, and you can clearly see SRV's signature on the headstock at many points in the video.

i own both of them and i guess i can understand how the untrained eye can mistake them for one another, but the only resemblance is the 3 tone sunburst. the headstock, the tremolo, the hardware color, the fingerboard, and the machine heads are visually all different.

OK. the song is awesome. the VIDEO is even better. wicked. and as for slavery and the civil war: the main idealogical difference was states' rights. The federal governmnet was taking more and more power away from what were supposed to be nearly sovereign states. I was just four years old when this song came out in 1969, but I can remember hearing it at the time. I think I was in my teens before I finally learned it the title, but the "ride a painted pony" line always stuck with me. I particularly like this long version with the trumpet and piano bridge and the outro with the guys saying "That wasn't too good", which adds a little humor.
