Leonard is ten times the songwriter, of the nearest contenders.. and the U2 guys know this, and they show it.. and they ARE definatley among those nearest contenders. Well, stayathome123, by definition it is an adaption, which implies that SOME things are gonna be changed. Alec's age is not actually such a huge deal, neither is the 'head gear.' What would be annoying would be if they rewrote the whole book like they did with "The Young Black Stallion", because adaptions should follow the same basic plotline. But this movie stuck very close to th eoriginal story.

I did not like any of the changes they made from the book to the movie! what a disappointment that was... it wasn't broke so why did they 'fix it'? it had been a perfect story and they made its most dramatic moments silly and casted a kid instead of a young man... cheapened the match race with that silly head gear... what about the injury to the Black in the fight before the race and young Alec's concern that his horse was running while injured?

Yes, I love this kind of jazz and I know it should be beautiful...and in general it is... but somehow I cannot convince myself that Garbarek's solos are not actually boring... The Gismonti-Haden concert in Montreal is my absolutely favourite and beloved CD, but listening to the trio's recordings (the same applies to his CDs with Bobo Stenson trio) I can't escape the feeling that Garbarek with his constantly weeping saxophone is just redundant... Sorry for that, but this is just my feeling :-(

This version of "Maracatu" is, however, not nearly as good as the original recording on the "Sanfona" album. I have the feeling that Gismonti´s well-known overly presumptious personality gets in the way of his art--for example, in this recording, where he overdoes the original "Maracatu" theme with an array of decorative elements which, in my view and much to the listener's dismay, dilute and pollute the marvelous inspirational quality which he captured in his "Maracatu" recording for "Sanfona".

This music is beautiful, and it is really a maracatu!!! Try to focus on the rhythm and you´ll realise that is a maracatu!! Do you know the basic rhythm cell of it??? Think in a 4/4 compass the attack is on the head of the first beat and the rest is on the second sixteenth of the thrid and fourth beats!! In this video is difficult to realise because they´re improvising a lot!!! Thanks Egberto
